Brief: Redesign an everyday object, report on how you made it a more sustainable option.
Team: Five people from diverse backgrounds, four different kinds of engineers and myself as a communication designer.
My role and outcome: I helped expand our creative thinking toward the use of locally sourced production offcuts, specifically scrap wood to reduce our carbon footprint. This approach led to a simple, modular design that is easy to disassemble and incorporates a blade recycling feature.
The poster design reflected this simplicity, whilst aligning itself with brands like Who Gives a Crap - making sustainability a cooler choice to make.
I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands on which I mostly live, work and play - the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nation and the Brayakaulung people of the Gunaikurnai Nation, where I grew up and return to often. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continued connection to Country and culture, and as the first and most enduring storytellers of these lands. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
